2 wheeler insurance is a contract between an insurance company and the owner of the bike. In this agreement, the insurer guarantees to cover any financial obligations that might result from a collision involving the insured’s two-wheeler. Two-wheeled vehicles of all kinds, including motorcycles, scooters, scootys, and mopeds, are covered by 2 wheeler insurance policies. In India, there are three different types of two-wheeler insurance plans. These include solo own-damage (OD), comprehensive bike insurance, and third-party insurance. These insurance policies’ differences can be attributed to the coverage they offer.
Types of 2 Wheeler Insurance –
There are 3 different types of 2 Wheeler Insurance:
Comprehensive 2 Wheeler Insurance –
A comprehensive bike insurance policy offers total protection by paying any financial obligations you may have to a third party as well as compensating you for costs associated with your bike’s own damage. This insurance protects your bike from harm caused by accidents, fire, theft, and man-made disasters. It also covers natural disasters, self-ignition, explosion, and other events. Additionally, you can increase its coverage by paying an additional price to buy add-on covers including engine cover, zero depreciation cover, and roadside assistance cover.
Third Party 2 Wheeler Insurance –
The third-party bike insurance coverage is a legal necessity in India for anyone riding a bike. The coverage for bodily injuries, temporary or permanent disability, and death of a third party resulting from an accident or incident involving the insured’s bike is also referred to as liability-only insurance. This motorbike or scooter insurance policy also covers third-party property damage costs up to Rs. 1 lakh, however it excludes coverage for injuries to the insured or damage to their own vehicle.
Own-Damage 2 Wheeler Insurance –
A standalone own-damage bike insurance policy covers losses incurred by the insured bike as a result of theft, fire, accidents, natural disasters, and man-made calamities. A standalone own-damage policy gives policyholders the freedom to select the insurance provider of their choice. The policyholders have the option of purchasing both their own-damage and third-party coverage from the same insurer or from a different one. By purchasing add-on covers, an insured person can increase the scope of an own-damage insurance policy.
Benefits of 2 Wheeler Insurance Plan –
It requires periodic renewal; it is not a one-time task. Your 2 wheeler insurance coverage will expire and lose its validity if you are unable to renew it on time. Until the expired 2 wheeler insurance policy is renewed, you will not be able to make any coverage claims. Purchasing a 2 wheeler insurance policy has a number of advantages, including coverage for third-party liability, own damage coverage, cashless repairs, add-on coverage, and no claim incentives.
Things to take into Consideration –
When purchasing or renewing 2 wheeler insurance coverage for your motorcycle, you should consider the inclusions. Each company provides different coverages, so it’s essential to compare them. If you enjoy riding a bike, you may have a traffic collision at any time. Bike insurance policies also cover damages to third parties and the bike’s owner. Some of the inclusions are as follows: Losses & Damages Suffered Due to Natural Calamities, Losses & Damages Suffered Due to Manmade Calamities, Own Damage Cover, Personal Accident Coverage, Theft or Burglary, Legal Third-Party Liability, Fire & Explosion.
The following events or circumstances are not covered by bike insurance: Normal vehicle wear and tear-related damage
loss due to mechanical or electrical failures, Depreciation is any loss that results from routine use, any tyre or tube damage sustained during routine use, Any damage sustained when the bicycle was being utilized beyond the limits of the coverage, damage or loss brought on by a rider without a valid license damaging the bike, Any loss or harm brought on by a driver who was using drugs or alcohol while behind the wheel, any losses or damages brought on by rebellion, war, or nuclear peril.
Cashless Claim Settlement Process and Reimbursement Claim Settlement Process are the steps that make up the claim settlement process for your bike’s cashless and reimbursement claims.
